Our History

Lincoln Cemetery has been serving Atlanta since 1925. Our history is rich, and our heritage is unmatched… but did you know that it all started with a famous boxer?

1925

Founding

The original founder of Lincoln Cemetery was Theodore "Tiger” Flowers. Nicknamed, "the Georgia Deacon", Tiger rose to prominence in the early 20th century by becoming the first African-American World Middleweight Boxing Champion. Tiger lived close to Lincoln in a house near Simpson Road, now Joseph E Boone Blvd. Since Tiger’s early investment in Lincoln, the cemetery has cultivated an impeccable reputation as Atlanta’s premier cemetery and expanded its grounds to encompass over 100 acres.
